The Blessed


When children were born into the Frost troll tribe, sometimes a child was chosen to be a blessed warrior, a Berserker. The berserkers were fed the fire of fighting even as they took their first steps, and by the time they reached adolescence they fully embraced the fight as their nature.
To prevent these children from injuring the other children, they were separated from them and lived at the temple, where they were showered with everything they could possibly need by the tribe. After all, these were the blessed. The ultimate warriors.
As a wild child, Ezanthe was naturally chosen to be such a blessed warrior. Her mother knew the moment she was born, and the priests were awed – Ezanthe was originally a twin, but she was the only one that lived. They saw this as a sign of her strength, and the family was proud.
As Ezanthe grew up, she learned all the priests and warriors had to teach her and they cheered on her bloodlust as she beat the other blessed children. Of course, they always took her away if she went too far, but encouraged her to show the same spirit when on the battlefield.
When she was twelve, the young troll joined side by side with the warriors, drinking blood and raging as the war drums urged her on. She lived for this, she enjoyed every moment and when it was over she was brooding for days…
She felt alive, she felt like a queen every time she was fighting on the battle field, and was soon a treasured warrior of her tribe. It didn’t matter who they fought, Ezanthe let herself drown in the crimson fury of blood and screams every single time.
With the passing years she grew up to be a woman of value, someone the enemy feared to meet on the battle field, someone the tribe looked up to and pampered with every little thing she wanted. For years she fought, until there was no fighting any more. The tribe settled, it’s bloody history fading. Far from pleased with the peace Ezanthe searched for other battles to fight, and ended up winning the heart of the tribe leader’s oldest son. She bore him a baby girl, and everyone swore she’d grow up to make a blessed warrior, just like her mother.
But Ezanthe was finished with her life. She’d fought her battles, given the world a child and she’d been pampered like a queen her whole life. When her daughter was only four years old, Ezanthe fought with a fierce yeti, and it’s bite poisoned her.
Most troll would have fought the poison and struggled to live, but not her. She lay on her death bed with no regrets, having lived life just like she wanted it and dying because of fighting suited her. She was not made for peace, and she’d rather die an honourable death than live without it.

When a blessed warrior of the frost troll tribe dies, they are placed on a fur covered throne wearing their finest clothes and jewelry, and sitting on their throne they are encased in ice and placed among the other blessed on their thrones. Warriors to be worshiped and remembered. The finer their jewelry, the more treasured the warrior.
Every day the ice was polished until it was clear like glass.
But as time pass, things change and so they did for the tribe as well. Succumbing to the forces of other tribes and nameless evil, the memory of the blessed berserkers faded into history. Layers of ice and snow covered the tombs until they could no longer be seen.
Many years later, a person…or rather two, with an affinity for death found the graveyard with much pleasure…
